At Britool Hallmark, we take pride in supplying professional-quality hand tools designed to withstand the demands of everyday workshop use.
We stand behind the quality of our products and offer a Lifetime Tool Guarantee against defects in materials and workmanship for the expected working life of the tool.
Our commitment is simple: if a tool fails prematurely due to a genuine manufacturing or material defect, we will endeavour to put things right quickly, fairly and without unnecessary hassle.
1. What Does Lifetime Mean?
Our Lifetime Tool Guarantee applies for the expected working life of the tool, not the lifetime of the purchaser or an unlimited period of ownership.
The expected working life of a tool will vary depending on its design, construction, intended purpose, frequency of use, maintenance, and working conditions.
The guarantee covers manufacturing and material defects arising during normal, intended use throughout this period.
It does not mean that a tool is guaranteed against all forms of deterioration, damage or wear indefinitely.
2. What Is Covered?
The guarantee covers eligible Britool Hallmark hand tools that develop faults attributable to defective materials or manufacturing workmanship during their expected working life.
Examples of potentially covered failures include:
- Premature breakage caused by defective materials.
- Manufacturing defects affecting the structural integrity of a tool.
- Faulty components resulting from manufacturing or assembly defects.
- Premature failure under normal working conditions where inspection confirms a manufacturing or material defect.
Where a claim is accepted, we will repair or replace the defective tool or component, as appropriate, at no charge.
If an identical replacement is no longer available, we may provide an equivalent product of comparable specification and functionality.
3. What Is Not Covered?
Our Lifetime Tool Guarantee does not cover failures resulting from normal wear and tear, misuse, accidental damage or use outside the tool's intended purpose.
The following exclusions apply:
General Wear and Tear
Normal deterioration resulting from regular use, including:
- Worn working surfaces and gradual loss of performance.
- Cosmetic scratches, scuffs and surface deterioration.
- Corrosion resulting from poor storage or inadequate maintenance.
- Normal ageing of components and materials.
- Wear resulting from prolonged or repeated use.
Misuse or Incorrect Application
Damage resulting from:
- Excessive force or overloading beyond the tool's intended capacity.
- Using extension tubes or other methods to increase leverage beyond the tool's design.
- Using chrome hand sockets with impact machinery.
- Using tools for applications for which they were not designed.
- Accidental damage, abuse, modification, or improper maintenance.
- Unauthorised alterations or repairs that cause or contribute to the failure.
Consumable and Serviceable Components
Certain components are subject to wear during normal use and may require periodic replacement.
Normal wear and deterioration of these components are excluded from the Lifetime Tool Guarantee.
Examples include, but are not limited to:
| Product / Component | Examples of Excluded Wear |
|---|---|
| Ratchet mechanisms | Normal wear of gears, pawls, springs and internal moving components. |
| Ratchet repair kits | Normal deterioration of replacement mechanisms and serviceable parts. |
| Screwdriver bits | Worn, rounded, twisted or damaged working tips through normal use. |
| Hex, Torx and other driver bits | Gradual wear or deterioration of working ends. |
| Cutting tools | Normal blunting and wear of blades and cutting edges. |
| Pliers and cutters | Gradual wear of jaws, gripping surfaces and cutting edges. |
| Extractors | Normal wear of gripping teeth, spiral flutes and cutting surfaces. |
| Punches and chisels | Gradual wear, blunting or deformation of working tips through normal use. |
| Replaceable accessories | Normal deterioration of O-rings, seals, rubber components, replaceable tips and other serviceable items. |
| Surface finishes | Scratches, worn coatings, discolouration and cosmetic deterioration that do not affect normal function. |
Important: These exclusions relate to normal wear and tear. Consumable or serviceable components that fail prematurely due to a genuine manufacturing or material defect may still qualify for repair or replacement under the guarantee.
4. Ratchets and Moving Parts
Ratchets and other tools containing moving mechanisms are subject to mechanical wear during normal operation.
Consequently, normal wear of ratchet gears, pawls, springs and other internal moving components is not covered by the Lifetime Tool Guarantee.
Where available, replacement ratchet mechanisms and repair kits can be purchased to extend the working life of the tool.
However, where inspection establishes that a ratchet mechanism or other moving component has failed prematurely due to defective materials or manufacturing workmanship, the claim will be considered under our guarantee.
5. How to Make a Guarantee Claim
If you believe your Britool Hallmark tool has developed a fault covered by our Lifetime Tool Guarantee, please contact TradeMarque Tools before returning the product.
Please provide the following information:
- Product description and part number, where available.
- A brief explanation of the fault and how it occurred.
- Clear photographs showing the affected tool and defect.
- Proof of purchase, where available, or other reasonable evidence of purchase.
We may request additional information or ask for the product to be returned for inspection before determining whether a repair or replacement is appropriate.
Please do not dispose of a faulty tool before contacting us, as we may need to examine it.
6. Returning a Tool for Inspection
Customers making a claim under our voluntary Lifetime Tool Guarantee are responsible for arranging and initially paying the cost of returning the product to TradeMarque Tools for inspection.
Please contact us before returning any item so that we can provide the appropriate return instructions.
All returned tools should be suitably packaged to prevent damage during transit. We recommend using a tracked delivery service and retaining proof of postage.
Once received, the tool will be examined to establish the nature and cause of the failure.
Where a claim is accepted under our Lifetime Tool Guarantee:
- We will repair or replace the defective product at no charge.
- We will arrange delivery of the repaired or replacement product to a UK address at our expense.
Where a claim is not accepted, we will explain the reason and discuss the available options.
These arrangements apply to claims made under our voluntary guarantee and do not affect customers' statutory rights, including any entitlement to reimbursement of reasonable return costs where required by law.
7. Our Approach to Guarantee Claims
We recognise that professional tools are purchased to be used, and we understand the importance of keeping downtime to a minimum.
All claims will be assessed fairly, taking into account the nature of the failure, the tool's age, its intended application and its expected working life.
Where a genuine manufacturing or material defect is identified, we will endeavour to resolve the issue promptly through repair or replacement.
We also recognise that individual circumstances vary and may, at our discretion, offer goodwill assistance in cases falling outside the formal guarantee terms.
Our aim is always to provide a fair, practical and straightforward resolution.
